To define a ORLEANS makerspace by its purpose in the simplest terms, it is a place where young people have an opportunity to explore their own interests; learn to use tools and materials, both physical and virtual; and develop creative projects.
Time spent in learning and tinkering labs not only leads to developing the must-have 21st-century skills – creative thinking, critical thinking, problem-solving to name a few – but also helps students develop other important life skills such as teamwork, communication skills, empathy, and resilience.Ultimately, the outcome of maker education and educational makerspaces leads to determination, independence and creative problem solving, and authentic preparation for the real world through simulating real-world challenges.
